Hyderabad: The entire milling and recarpeting works on the PVNR Expressway is likely to be completed in a couple of days with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) expediting the works over the last few weeks without major hindrance to traffic flow on the structure.

HMDA has already completed milling and recarpeting works on one side of the structure. The work on two lanes on the NFDB side was launched in summer and completed in July last year. The work was executed by permitting traffic only on the Mehdipatnam to Shamshabad Airport route. Those coming from the airport into the city were made to take the road under the expressway.

After the completion of work on one side, the exercise was to be replicated on the other side but due to the monsoon, it was put on hold. However, during the lockdown, HMDA began the milling and recarpeting work on the Mehdipatnam end towards the airport.

Unlike the other side of PVNR Expressway (NFDB side), where the entire 11.6 km stretch was recarpeted, this side did not require entire recarpeting.

There were some bad patches at a few places, especially near the Hyatt Palace function hall and other areas covering about 4 km and the rest of the stretch was relatively in good shape. Accordingly, the recarpeting work is taken up to cover up the bad patches, an HMDA official said.

“Already, a major portion of the work is completed save for a balance portion of nearly 300 metres. That will be done mostly by Sunday,” he said.

The recarpeting work is being taken up for the first time after the Expressway was inaugurated in 2009. The 11.6 km long structure is being recarpeted at a cost of Rs 9 crore. Works were intensified during the lockdown period to avoid any inconvenience to motorists, said Municipal Administration and Urban Development Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar.
