Qutb Shahi Tombs to get a makeover

The Memorandum of Understanding will have the Aga Khan Trust using its funds for conservation and restoration works.

Hyderabad: The State Archaeology Department has entered into an agreement with the Aga Khan Trust for conservation and restoration of the Qutb Shahi Tombs here on Wednesday.

The Memorandum of Understanding will have the Aga Khan Trust using its funds for conservation and restoration works with a budget of Rs 100 crore, said Tourism Secretary, B Venkatesham.

The Trust had a world-wide repute in conservation of heritage monuments and had also carried out similar work on the Humayun Tombs in New Delhi, he said.

For the Qutb Shahi Tombs, Aga Khan Trust would use its own funds to the tune of Rs 100 crore along with Rs 98 crore from the Centre, and restore the tombs to their past glory, Venkatesham said adding that the entire campus would be metamorphosed and with parks in the next 10 years.
