Visakhapatnam: CPM Polit bureau member BV Raghavulu has demanded public hearing on the land scam and wondered why CBI inquiry was not ordered even though a Minister sought it.
Talking to reporters here on Monday, he took exception to cancellation of the public hearing on the pretext of SIT probe and alleged that the State Government seemed to shield the real culprits in the case.
“It is strange that the Director General of Police N Sambasiva Rao took the side of the Chief Minister saying that the latter was keen on bringing the culprits to book in the scam. Because, on the contrary, the Government as well as the officials are trying to scale down the level of the scam and control it,” he said.
He recalled that the Government was trying to side-track the probe saying irregularities took place only in Madhurawada and Kommadi lands. Moreover, the Collector saying that the land records disappeared, and eventually claiming to have found them also raises doubts, he pointed out.
Raghavulu expressed concern that the Revenue department which was probing Government lands was not taking the issue of encroachment of private lands seriously.
“They are trying to dismiss it as a row between two Ministers. We demand a CBI inquiry into the issue. When Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao has called for CBI probe, there is no reason why the Government should dilly dally in the matter in the name of SIT investigation,” he said.
CPM State executive member Ch Narasinga Rao and CPM city secretary B Gangarao were also present.
