Kamareddy: After formation of a separate district, Kamareddy district headquarters did not have any park till the district Collector N Satyanarayana took the initiative to develop a park in an 8 acre plot in Degree College grounds and named it as Rasi Vanam.
Now the park is providing the much needed lung space for the residents of Kamareddy town. There are many plants which go according to the zodiac signs and hence the park is names as Rasi Vanam. There are also many fruit-bearing and medicinal plants.
Kamareddy town was upgraded as district headquarters after formation of the separate district in 2017. The government’s Haritha Haram programme came as a fillip to develop the park and also to improve the green cover in the town.
Collector Satyanarayana allocated Rs 6 lakh from CBF funds and mobilised another Rs 2 lakh through syndicate bank CSR funds to develop the park. Later the concept of Rasi Vanam was introduced and saplings based on the zodiac signs were planted and nurtured here.
Funds are collected from people for the development of the park. Under this concept, Rs 5,000 are collected from each person and a tree based on the zodiac sign of the donor will be planted.
The contributed money is meant for use for manure, gardening, name plates, electricity bills and tree guards at the lung space.
This concept became a huge success with many coming forward to donate money to have saplings planted. As donations are pouring in, an expansion of the park is being planned in 3.5 acres more and a fruit park is to be developed in another 4.5 acres.
