Hyderabad: Telangana government launched ‘Rasta’, a road safety programme to spread awareness among the people on road accidents.
Speaking to presspersons after releasing the programme schedule and logo, Minister for Transport P Mahender Reddy expressed distress over the increasing deaths due to accidents.
He said nearly 7,000 people, mostly youngsters, falling prey to accidents every year in the State. “By involving school and college students, road safety campaigns will be conducted across the State starting from January 17 to 23. The intention of the road week programme is to cut down the number of accidents,” Reddy said.
The Minister said ‘No helmet- No petrol’ method started in the Adilabad district was yielding positive results and soon it would be expanded across the State. During the programme, the motor vehicle and police inspectors will identify the dangerous spots, faulty roads and suggest solutions to avoid accidents, Mr Reddy said.
He also said the State government would follow the guidelines of the Supreme Court on road safety measures.
