Hyderabad: BJP State unit president K Laxman on Friday challenged Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to issue a special Government Order facilitating an increase in reservation for STs and SCs rather than blaming the Central government.
Speaking to mediapersons here, he said according to the Indian Constitution, State governments can issue GOs to increase reservations to STs and SCs, which will also stand before any court. “But to make the issue complicated, the Chief Minister clubbed the unconstitutional minorities reservation with the constitutionally valid SC and ST reservations in a single Bill and forwarded it for the Central nod,” he alleged.
Laxman said the State government till today did not have any legally valid information on BC, SC and ST population. “On what basis is the Chief Minister repeatedly saying that minority population in the State is 12 per cent and ST population is 10 per cent without disclosing the Intensive Household Survey details,” he asked.
Laxman questioned the government for passing the reservation Bill when the matter was before the Supreme Court. He faulted the Chief Minister for comparing reservation system of other States such as Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and the other North-Eastern States.
“Those States conducted a scientific survey on population and constituted commissions to study the socio-economic conditions and with the authentic data, they submitted the list of reservations to the court,” he said.
