‘Rice pulling’ gang busted in Kothagudem

Kothagudem: The police busted a ‘rice pulling’ gang and arrested five persons here on Wednesday.

Kothagudem DSP S M Ali giving details of the case at Laxmidevipalli Police Station said the police seized a brass pot, Rs 1.95 lakh cash and a few rice grains from the accused.

He said the accused Bhim Raju and Krishna of Medar Basti in Kothagudem made equipment using brass pot covered with a thin layer of magnet to attract rice grains into which small iron pieces were inserted. They were helped by Srinu and Sunder in making it.

With that equipment the accused tried to dupe gullible victims claiming that it had mysterious powers and was worth crores of rupees in the market. With the assistance by Vankudoth Venkat Ramulu of Tekulapalli mandal the gang trapped Lanka Govindarajulu of Vijayawada to sell the item. The police who got information regarding the transaction have taken the accused into custody, the DSP said. He appreciated CI Karunakar, SI Varun Prasad, and constables Ravi and Kannaiah for nabbing the gang.
