River Godavari receives heavy inflows on Sunday

With these heavy inflows, the river is in spate at Kandakurti and the ancient Shiva temple is submerged in floodwaters

Nizamabad: Godavari received nearly one lakh cusecs from Maharashtra and another 65,000 cusecs received from local catchment area through Gadennavagu and river Manjeera on Sunday, authorities said.

With these heavy inflows, the river is in spate at Kandakurti and the ancient Shiva temple is submerged in floodwaters. The water level was almost touching the Kandakuriti inter-state bridge.

Meanwhile, the SRSP received 1,64,922 cusecs inflows on Sunday, out of which 1.50 lakh cusecs of water was released into Godavari, by lifting 40 flood gates. The water was also being released into various canals.

On Sunday, authorities released 1,68,913 cusecs of water from the SRSP project. The project now has 88.11 TMC of water. With the heavy inflows continuing, officials have begin to release more water than the inflow and were storing only 88 TMC’s instead of 90.31 TMC’s.
