Hyderabad: An unidentified gang, reportedly bearing resemblance to notorious ‘Chaddi Gang’, robbed residents of two houses in Kuntloor of Hayathnagar on the city outskirts in the early hours of Friday.

This is the second incident reported in Kuntloor within one month. Around 1 am, a six-member unidentified gang, some of them wearing vests and shorts, broke into the houses. “They covered their faces with clothes left to dry outside the houses and brandishing sticks, demanded the residents to hand over cash and jewellery they wore and kept in the house,” the police said. “Out of fear of being harmed, the residents handed over the jewellery apart from cash,” officials said.

According to the police, the gang first looted the house of Venkat Reddy and then that of Srinivas. The gang, which stayed in the area for about an hour, mostly conversed with the victims through gestures and used Hindi while threatening them.

Though there were reports that the work could be of ‘Chaddi Gang’, the police said they were yet to get any evidence regarding this. “They were wearing shorts. We are analysing their modus operandi. It could be another inter-State gang as well,” officials said, adding four special teams were formed and they were scanning footage from surveillance cameras in the surroundings.

On the other hand, the victims and local residents alleged negligence on part of the police as there was a patrolling car and a bike a few metres away from the houses. The offenders escaped in front of them, but they remained irresponsive, they alleged.

Officials said the police teams who were patrolling rushed to the houses to check the safety of the residents which was a priority. “While the offenders were escaping, the police personnel also heard people screaming from inside the houses. This made them think there was still someone inside holding people captive. As a priority, they first went to the houses to rescue the residents,” the police said.

Two complaints were received and two separate cases booked. Earlier, on October 23, a teacher of a Veda Pathashala and his wife were robbed by a gang in their house in Kuntloor.
