Hyderabad: 20-time Grand Slam title holder and tennis legend Roger Federer said that he realised the fact that he is inching closure to retirement from the game he would miss badly.
“In principle, I was only concerned with my health, but now I miss the feeling of playing in a full stadium. Retirement is getting closer and I will miss tennis so much. It would be easier for me to retire now, but I wanna give myself a chance to keep enjoying my time on the court,” he said.
The World No.4 player, Federer was set to play in Wimbledon which was canceled because off the coronavirus. But the 39-year-old forced to declare he will not play this season if resumes owing to surgery on his knees. “A few weeks ago, having experienced a setback during my initial rehabilitation, I had to have an additional quick arthroscopic procedure on my right knee. Now, much like I did leading up to the 2017 season, I plan to take the necessary time to be 100% ready to play at my highest level. I will be missing my fans and the tour dearly but, I will look forward to see everyone back on tour at the start of the 2021 season,” he added.
