Peddapalli: A simmering dispute between two families over a dog repeatedly choosing to defecate near an idli centre run by one of them, blew open on Monday with the dog’s owner, a local Congress party leader, attacking two women from the rival family. The attack landed the man in police custody. The bizarre incident occurred in Bhumanagar area of Peddapalli town.

According to the police, the family of Katukuri Sandeep, the district Congress party secretary, and that of Peruka Praveen were residents of Bhumanagar locality. Praveen and his wife Kalpana run an idli centre near their home.

The two families, according to the police, had run-ins with each other in the past over Sandeep’s dog’s habit of going to the idli centre every day and defecating there. “They quarrelled with each other over the issue a number of times in the past,” the police said.

On Monday, Sandeep, according to the police, picked up an argument with Kalpana and her mother Laxmi when the two women were passing by his house and later began beating them up as the argument turned serious. Kalpana sustained some minor bleeding injuries in the attack.

Enraged over the incident, the women lodged a complaint with the police. Based on the victims’ complaint, the police arrested Sandeep, according to sub-inspector of police Upender. The police official also said Sandeep and his family were instructed to keep their dog under control and keep a check on its movements.
