Warangal: Police have arrested a person and seized Rs 3,59,19,250 cash from a house in Kazipet. The arrested person was identified as Komma Fathima Reddy alias Francis Reddy of Uppal, Hyderabad. It is said that the cash belonged to Dr Pagidipati Devaiah, Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) candidate from Wardhannapet Assembly constituency.
Disclosing the details at a press conference here on Thursday, Police Commissioner V Ravinder said that Kazipet Sub-Inspector D Devender, who was patrolling in Siddarthnagar locality along with his staff on Wednesday night, found Francis Reddy moving around in a suspicious manner and took him into custody. When the police searched him, they found Rs 2 lakh in an envelope and also Rs 5,750 cash in his pocket besides papers related to the polling stations and villages of Wardhannapet constituency.
Following this, the police took him to the local tahsildar and questioned him in his presence. During questioning, Francis Reddy said that he and Sandeep, son-in-law of Pagidipati Devaiah, and Congress leader from Dharmasagar Amruth Rao were friends. He said they had stashed the cash in a house in Siddarthnagar and it was to be distributed to the voters before the December 7 elections.
After his confession, police conducted a search in the house and found the cash. They also seized some forms related to Devaiah from the house.
