Saina bags Sportsperson of the Year award

Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu was named ‘Outstanding Performer’ in women’s section while, Pullela Gopichand was presented the ‘Coach of The Year’ award.

Hyderabad: London Olympics bronze medallist Saina Nehwal was named ‘Sportsperson of The Year’ at the annual Telangana Sports Journalists Association awards function held at The Park here on Tuesday.

Dr Harvir Singh received it on behalf of her indisposed daughter. Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu was named ‘Outstanding Performer’ in women’s section while, Pullela Gopichand was presented the ‘Coach of The Year’ award and the Indian badminton team was the ‘Team of The Year’ and the Badminton Association of Telangana was awarded the ‘Association of the Year’.

Sunrisers Hyderabad mentor VVS Laxman stressed on the need of athletes giving back to the game after their playing days and cited the example of Gopi.
