Sakhi centre inaugurated in Mancherial

The Centre was set up through the Nirbhaya fund, under the National Commission for Empowerment of Women by Ministry of Women and Child Development.

Mancherial: District Collector Bharati Hollikeri inaugurated a Sakhi Centre to help women in distress in Mancherial on Wednesday. She said the facility was created to provide integrated services like medical, legal, psychosocial support and temporary shelter under one roof. Victims of domestic violence and other forms of crimes can take shelter here.

The Centre was set up through the Nirbhaya fund, under the National Commission for Empowerment of Women by Ministry of Women and Child Development.

Bharati said that the women in distress could avail services of the centre for free of cost, besides taking shelter. She informed that the centre was going to be operated from a temporary room for short period and it would be shifted to a new premise soon. She added that 18 cases corresponding to violence against women were registered so far.

Dream, a voluntary organisation’s chief executive officer B Krishna Reddy, president Rajitha, District Health and Medical Officer Dr A Bheeshma, authorities of Integrated Child Development Scheme, District Rural Development Organisation and many others were present.
