‘Sankaran a role model’

Chairperson of Centre for Dalit Studies, Mallepalli Laxmaiah said SR Sankaran was a role model who showed what an IAS officer could do for the marginalised sections of society.

Hyderabad: Centre for Dalit Studies (CDS) on Monday organised its eighth SR Sankaran memorial lecture, which was delivered by Head of Department of Defence and Strategic Studies, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan, Savitribhai Phule Pune University, Vijay S Khare on the topic ‘Ambedkar Defence Policy of India’.

“Ambedkar wanted to build a casteless and classless society and enhance the human security, balance and development. However, our policy makers have not considered his suggestions and thoughts for nation building,” he said. He was instrumental in creating linguistic States and told that one language could have many states due to high influence of regionalism and diversity among people, Vijay said.

Chairperson of Centre for Dalit Studies, Mallepalli Laxmaiah said SR Sankaran was a role model who showed what an IAS officer could do for the marginalised sections of society.

“Wherever he served, he earned a reputation as an administrator with integrity and sincerity and above all, a willingness to go beyond the call of duty in service of the weak and poor,” he said.

SR Sankaran was an IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre who earned a high reputation. As an administrator, he dedicated his life in the service of the poor and marginalised communities in general and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes in particular, he said.

Director, CDS, Y B Satyanarayan said that Shankaran was pioneer in opening residential schools in Andhra Pradesh and was of the strong opinion that the children of marginalised classes could gain if provided with a congenial atmosphere. The Centre for Dalit Studies has been organising the SR Sankaran memorial lecture since 2011, organisers added.
