Hyderabad: Continuing their good run, South Central Railway got the better of a fighting Sanathnagar Play Ground (SPG) 88-65 in the semi-finals of the third Samuel Vasanth Kumar memorial prize money flood-lit basketball tournament at YMCA Secunderabad, organised by the Hyderabad District Basketball Association and the Sports Writers Association of Telangana (SWAT), on Friday evening. At half-time, the winners led 52-30.
In the opening quarter, the young Sanathnagar gave a close fight to SCR. The railwaymen piled up fouls and fumbled in their shooting. But as the match progressed, SCR took control of their game. On the other hand, SPG began to give away the loose balls. Railways’ pivot and top scorer M Raju capitalized on it while Vijay, with five three-pointers, rattled the SPG defence. In the third quarter, thanks to shooter Nikhil, point guards Shiva Teja Yadav and Shoaib Khan, SPG came back strongly and gave a good fight
SPG’s Shoaib caught the eye with his speedy runs and gave a torrid time to the rival defenders but in the end the more organized SCR had the last laugh.
