Sea Cadet Corps celebrate 80th anniversary in Vizag

Visakhapatnam: On the occasion of 80th Anniversary of commencement of the Sea Cadet Corps(SCC) in India, a Ceremonial Parade was held at the Naval Base parade ground here on Sunday.

Commodore KA Bopanna, Commanding Officer INS Circars, inspected the Guard and reviewed the Parade comprising 12 platoons of Sea Cadets including 4 girl cadets platoon. On completion of the inspection, guard and platoons smartly marched past the dais with SCC band playing different tunes.

The parade was witnessed by Naval officials, other invitees and over 1000 families members of the Sea Cadets. Later the invitees had occasion to witness other activities of the SCC including sailing, boat pulling, rigging, semaphore, band performance and rifle drill. On completion of the parade, the Chief Guest presented awards outstanding Sea Cadets of the year 2017-18 to Leading Cadet P Jai Sai

Krishna and Able Cadet S Sumalatha for Best Cadet, Able Cadet V Manoj and Ordinary Cadet K Thanuja Sri Valli for sailing activities, Leading Cadet M Yuva Raj and Leading Cadet G Sanjana for Best swimming activities, Able Cadet PD Visawanadh and Ordinary Cadet D Pallavi Reddy for Best Attendance for year, New Entry Girls, and Ordinary Cadet for Best Marching Platoon.

Addressing the cadets on parade, Commodore Bopanna complimented the cadets on their immaculate turn out and outstanding drill. He congratulated the prize winners and appreciated the commitment by the cadets for sacrificing their Sundays to come to naval base to get an exposure on naval activities such as drill, semaphore, rigging, sailing, boat pilling and weapon firing. He assured the parents of the cadets that training received in organizations such as the SCC would instill discipline and leadership qualities to the children at an early stage and enable them satisfy their sense of adventure and raises their self esteem. He also emphasized that the discipline they imbibe during their youth would enable them to channelize their thought in the right direction and commit themselves to nation building.
