Suryapet: The second phase of sheep distribution scheme would be launched on September 25 from Huzurnagar in Suryapet district.
According to official sources, the State government would be distributing the sheep units at a total cost of Rs 5,000 crore in the second phase. The scheme is aimed at economic empowerment of caste-based communities like shepherds. Each unit would have 20 sheep and one ram that would be made available to the shepherds at 75 per cent subsidy. The cost of each unit would be Rs 1,25,000 and the beneficiary will have to bear 25 per cent of the amount and government would extend remaining amount.
In the fist phase of the programme, sheep units were distributed to 3,34,619 beneficiaries, and in the second phase, the scheme would cover another 3,62,047 beneficiaries, the sources said.
