Nalgonda: Three gold rings worth Rs 60,000 belonging to an accused in the sensational Pranay murder case, deposited with Nalgonda district jail authorities have gone missing. The rings were deposited with the jail authorities when the accused, Tirunagari Sravan, was sent to judicial custody after his arrest.
The issue came to light when the Superintendent of the District Jail M Krishna Murthy lodged a complaint with Nalgonda Town-I police station saying three gold rings which were in their custody had gone missing.
Sravan Kumar was sent to judicial custody in the district jail on September 19, 2018, by the court after his arrest in the case. As per jail records, three gold rings worth Rs 60,000 were deposited with the jail authorities while he was remanded as per rules.
After the PD Act was invoked against him, he was shifted to Central Jail in Warangal. After his release from jail on bail on April 28, 2019, he approached the officials of Nalgonda District Jail for his gold rings. But, the officials found the rings missing from the safe custody. Following this, the Deputy Inspector General of Prisons B Saidaiah inspected the district jail and took up an inquiry.
Speaking to the media, Saidaiah said there was no truth in reports in a section of media said that the gold rings had diamonds and were worth Rs 6 lakh. “Sravan Kumar himself has put the cost of the three rings between Rs 80,000 to Rs one lakh. Inquiry is going on as to how the gold rings deposited in the jail went missing. If it is found that someone has stolen them, stringent action would be taken against the person as per law. The cost of gold rings would be recovered from the person and given to Sravan Kumar,” he said.
