A five-time MLA and one-time Member of Parliament Errabelli Dayakar Rao is confident of winning the Palakurthy Assembly constituency in the ensuing election. A senior politician and one of the founding members of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Dayakar Rao won the Wardhannept constituency for three times consecutively. Since Wardhannapet was reserved for the SCs, he moved to Palakurthy constituency and won twice as the TDP candidate. However, he joined the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in 2016. He is the TRS nominee for Palakurthy constituency in the coming election.

In an interview with P Laxma Reddy, Dayakar Rao, who is known as a mass leader, expresses confidence that he would win Palakurthy constituency with a margin of at least 50,000 votes, adding that his honesty and integrity would fetch votes for him.

Q: It seems that you have already started the election campaign? How is the response?

Ans: No, I am yet to start the campaign. I am just meeting the party cadre and important leaders in all the mandals in the last 20 days. I have met at least 25,000 party activists. Thousands of people have joined the party during my visits. And the actual campaign begins soon.

Q: What promises did  you make during the 2014 elections? How many of them have been fulfilled?

Ans: I made several promises, including filling all the tanks with Godavari water. And I could able to get the water for at least half of the tanks from Devadula and SRSP projects. Indeed I could not do much development in the constituency from 2009 to 2014, as I was in the Opposition. But in the recent past, I brought more than Rs 1,500 crore funds for the constituency.

Q: What were major achievements during this term?

Ans: I sanctioned Rs 40 crore funds for the development of the heritage tourism circuit, including the development of Bammera, the birth place of the saint poet Pothana, and Palakurthy and others. Rs 20 crore have been sanctioned for the development of the Thorrur municipality. Besides this, Thorrur has been made the headquarters for the revenue division. Majority of the tribal hamlets (thandas) have got either BT roads or CC roads.

Q: What is the status of the 2BHK scheme in your constituency?

Ans: A total of 6,400 double bedroom houses have been sanctioned for our constituency, and 2,000 of them have already been completed. The remaining are at various stages. I purchased land at 30 villages for the construction of the houses spending money from my pocket.

Q: Have you taken up any special programmes for the welfare or development of the constituency?

Ans: On behalf of the Errabelli Charitable Trust, a 50-day free coaching was given for nearly 3,000 job aspirants at Palakurthy and Thorrur towns. My intention is to see that majority of them would get the government jobs.

Q: What promises are going to make in the coming election?

Ans: I am not going to make any new promises. I will tell the people to vote for me for the development of the constituency and for Godavari water to all the tanks. This time I will ensure that all the tanks would be filled with the Godavari water.
