Hyderabad: Senior surgical oncologist Dr. G Suryanarayana Raju has been nominated as member of Medical Assessment and Rating Board of the National Medical Commission (NMC), which has replaced the Medical Council of India (MCI).
The NMC replaced the MCI from Thursday and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare established four Autonomous Boards under NMC including Under-Graduate Medical Education Board, Post-Graduate Medical Education Board, Medical Assessment and Rating Board and Ethics and Medical Registration Board.
Credited for establishing and heading the Surgical Oncology department at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Dr. Raju has more than 32 years of experience. After retiring from NIMS, the senior cancer specialist established ASVINS Speciality Hospital located at Rajbhavan Road.
In the last three decades, Dr. Raju has conducted over 60,000 cancer surgeries and also trained over 75 cancer specialists, who went on to establish speciality cancer centres and hospitals across the country.
Dr. Raju is visiting Surgeon to Cancer Institute Tokyo, Japan and learned radical surgeries for Oesophageal and Gastric Cancers in 1995, Baptist Health, Miami Florida in 2017. The Royal College of Surgeons, England also has awarded Dr. Raju Fellowship FRCS in 2009.
