Hyderabad: The Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) on Wednesday entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) to encourage Self Help Groups (SHGs) in seed production.
The MoU was signed by the PJTSAU Registrar Dr S Sudheer Kumar and SERP Chief Executive Officer Pausumi Basu in the presence of Vice Chancellor, PJTSAU, Dr V Praveen Rao at the university campus.
Basu said the MoU will help improve the economic status of the Self Help Groups in the State.
“The initial goal of this collaboration is to encourage the women farmers to take up seed production and usage of bio agents with the support of PJTSAU on mutually beneficial agenda,” the SERP CEO said. As part of the MoU, the University will support in providing capacity building of SERP staff in terms of technical aspects like seed production, pest control, disease and nutrient management through regional research stations.
PJTSAU would also provide technical support for value addition in millets through millet incubation centre and also in pulses besides extending support to SERP by providing opportunity to utilize organic production practices and laboratories for testing organic products of SERP for scientific validation.
