Nizamabad: Owners of several shops selling non-essential goods were slapped with penalties for keeping them open on Tuesday in violation of the lockdown.

Nizamabad Municipal Commissioner Jitesh V Patil and Nizamabad Collector C Narayana Reddy conducted inspections at Nehru arch, Bodhan bus stand, Quilla road, weekly market, railway station, Chandrashekhar Colony, market yard, Dubba and Lalitha Mahal theatre areas.

The officials imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on a furniture shop at Quilla road and Rs 2,000 on a tailor shop at Dubba.
