Hyderabad: Ace shuttler and Hyderabad Hunters captain PV Sindhu said the defending champions are confident about winning the Premier Badminton League (PBL) title which is set to begin from December 22.
Sindhu, who will be playing with her home side for the first time in PBL, said that she always wanted to represent the Hyderabad side and thanked the team management for providing her the opportunity.
“I always wanted to represent Hyderabad team and was amazed by the crowd support that the team had received so far. Each of us will give our 100 per cent to make sure the team defends the title,” Sindhu said at a press conference on Monday.
When asked about her opening match against former Hunter’s captain Carolina Martin, Sindhu said the Hyderabad team had never lost their opening match in the previous tournaments and added that she hopes to repeat the same for her side. “It is going to be a tough contest, but I will give my best to start our campaign on a winning note,” she said.
Dr VKRV Rao, CMD Agile Group, franchise owners of the Hunters said the new-looked team have the right mix to beat any other side and added that he expects them to do really well this year.
Besides Sindhu, international stars like Lee Hyun (South Korea), Bodin Issara (Thailand), Mark Caljouw (Netherlands), Kim Sa Rang and Eom Hye Won (Korea) along with Indian talents Sai Uttejitha Rao, Rahul Yadav, Arun George and Meghana Jekkampudi will be wearing the Hyderabad jersey this time.
The Hunters will be hosting two matches at their home turf in Gachibowli Stadium on December 25 and December 28 against Chennai Smashers and Awadhe Warriors respectively.
