Jeddah: The celestial wedding (Kalyanam) of Lord Rama with his consort Goddess Sita was celebrated with pomp and gaiety at Sri Krishna Mandir in Muscat on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami on Saturday.
Hundreds of Telugu NRIs thronged the temple, one of the two oldest temples in Gulf, to witness the grand celebrations. Scores of Telugu NRI community members living in Oman took part in the celebrations and offered silk clothes and ‘talambralu’ to the deities which is an age-old practice.
Many people participated in the event held on Saturday. Many of them came from far flung areas such as Salalah, Sohar and other parts of the Sultanate also from neighbouring Dubai, Ras Al Khaima.
Priests K Dattatraya Sharma, who was specially flown from Varanasi to Muscat offered prayers. After the initial rituals including Veda Patham, Sankalpam, Ganapati Puja, Punyahavachanam, and Magalaarti and later Mahaprasadam was distributed to devotees, said Chandana Ramdas, one of the organisers of the event.
