Six persons arrested in Peddapalli district for spreading fake messages on WhatsApp on coronavirus.

Peddapalli: The Ramagundam commissionerate police have arrested six persons for spreading fake news on coronavirus in various WhatsApp groups on Saturday.

The arrested persons were Cheral Rathan, and Sheelam Preem Kumar of Markandaya colony, Maram Mahesh and Sudamalla Ramesh, Gandhinagar, and SK Ankus and Durgham and Srinivas of Shivajinagar.

On Friday, Rathan allegedly made a message stating that two persons in Godavarikhani town tested positive for coronavirus and posted it in a few WhatsApp groups along with the logo of a leading vernacular Telugu daily.

Mahesh, the admin of Mission 27 group and Srinivas, admin of Addala Yuva Sena, circulated the messages in their respective groups. Prem Kumar, Ramesh and SK Ankus also spread message in different groups.

They are booked under sections 188, 271, 504, 505(2)(b) IPC, section. 5 of Disaster Management Act 2005, section 2 of Epidemic Disease Act 1897.
