Six naxalites arrested in Mahabubabad, weapons seized

Police arrested six members of CPI (ML) New Democracy including two commanders.

Mahabubabad: The police have arrested six members of the CPI (ML) New Democracy including two commanders on Friday morning and also seized several weapons from their possession.

Presenting them before media here on Friday, SP N Koti Reddy said Gudur CI Ramesh, Kothaguda SI Satish and other staff with the help of CRPF personnel conducted combing operations in Kothaguda forest area following specific information about the movement of CPI (ML) New Democracy (Pedda Chandranna faction) members.

When the combing party was returning after finishing the operation on Friday around 6 am, the police spotted Mahabubabad district CPI (ML) (Pedda Chandaranna faction) district secretary Soma Bhaskar alias Suryam and other naxalites near Laxmipuram village.

“Though the police asked them to surrender, Suryam and another naxalite Share Madhu fled from the scene. However, the police nabbed six other naxalites,” the SP said.

The arrested members have been identified as Jakkuala Sammaiah alias Jampanna, dalam commander, Kothaguda area; Solam Papa Rao alias Pradeep, dalam commander, Gangaram area; Gyanam Kranthi Kumar alias KK Bangari Vinod alias Samba Rao, dalam member; Nallamatti Ashok and Mamunuri Karnakar, dalam members.

A spring field rifle, an SLR, a .303 single shot rifle, 8 mm rifle, one pistol, SLR charger, five rounds, 53 different live rounds, six kit bags, party fund account book and party literature have been seized from their possession.

The arrested naxalites have been charged for extortion of contractors and booked under different sections of IPC, AP Forest Act, and Wildlife Animals Act.

SP Koti Reddy has called upon other naxalites who escaped, to surrender, and he has also warned others not resort to extortion. He appreciated the CI and SI for showing extraordinary courage.
