Snehit upsets top seed Chandra, enters final

The 19-year-old paddler, who won youth national title last month, was down 6-11, 8-11 after first two sets. But he rallied to make it 2-2 with 11-4, 11-4 before the Haryana lad Chandra, the No.1 ranked youth paddler, took the fifth set 16-14.

Hyderabad: Telangana paddler S Fidel R Snehit continued his good form as he rallied from two sets down to upset top-seed Jeet Chandra of Haryana to enter title clash in the under-21 boys table tennis event at Khelo India Youth Games in Guwahati on Monday.

The 19-year-old paddler, who won youth national title last month, was down 6-11, 8-11 after first two sets. But he rallied to make it 2-2 with 11-4, 11-4 before the Haryana lad Chandra, the No.1 ranked youth paddler, took the fifth set 16-14. However, Snehit went on to win next two sets 12-10, 11-5 to make it to the final. He will now take on Regan from Maharashtra for the title.

Snehit had defeated Maharashtra’s D Rajesh Patil 10-12, 11-4, 11-5, 12-14, 11-5, 11-7 in the quarterfinals. “This was a very good win. Chandra being the No.1 ranked player in the youth category, this win will keep me in good stead ahead of the final,” Snehit said from Guwahati.
