Sonam Kapoor pays a tribute to fashion icons

Says Sonam Kapoor, "As an actor, you create an idea of yourself through emotions, expressions, dialogues, and also through clothes. When you look back at history to define an era, you look back at fashion. All icons of their time had elements in their dressing that stood out."

Sonam Kapoor’s unapologetic love for fashion are what sartorial legends are made of. India’s poster girl for fashion, Sonam knows her couture yet maintains a heady balance between her love for international labels and Indian couturiers, and, with this, has transformed red-carpet style in India. She now turns into a Fashion Chameleon for Vogue India, on the occasion of their 10th anniversary, as they crown her ‘Fashion Icon of the Year’.

The star pays a tribute to legendary fashion icons including Marlene Dietrich, known for her glamorous persona and ‘bedroom eyes’, Madhubala, considered at her time as one of the most stunning women in the world, the Dutch exotic dancer and courtesan Mata Hari, and Frida Kahlo, the Mexican artist whose style continues to influence designers even after decades. Says Sonam Kapoor, “As an actor, you create an idea of yourself through emotions, expressions, dialogues, and also through clothes. When you look back at history to define an era, you look back at fashion. All icons of their time had elements in their dressing that stood out.”
