Hyderabad: TPCC Chief and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday said Statehood for Telangana became a reality because of the then AICC chief Sonia Gandhi.

Congratulating the people of the State on the occasion of the sixth State Formation Day, he said that six decades of aspirations were fulfilled because of her decision to grant separate State. “The State government, however is denying the people of the State their benefits pushing its people into difficulties. There is no employment for youth. Numbers of unemployed has risen from 12 lakh to 24 lakh in the past six years,” he alleged in a statement. He also alleged that the State government had taken up redesigning of projects even as there were several projects that the earlier Congress governments had taken up.

He also criticized the government for its inability to stop Andhra Pradesh from taking away water from Srisailam reservoir through Pothireddypadu. “Today, when Congress party leaders were on a visit to pending Krishna-based projects, they were arrested. The State government must explain why all the projects on Krishna have been kept in abeyance since 2014?” he asked. He reiterated that the party will protest at all pending projects to highlight the “indifferent attitude” of the government.

“The State’s finances were surplus when it was formed. Now the State has an outstanding debt of Rs 3 lakh crore. The interest component on the loans itself is Rs 36,000 crore per year,” he claimed.

Party leaders including the TPCC Chief, former Deputy chief minister Damodar Rajnarsimha, former floor leader of Legislative Council Shabbir Ali and others observed silence in remembrance of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Statehood cause, and then hoisted the national flag commemorating the State Formation Day at Gandhi Bhavan.
