The consumer electronics show (CES) that is currently happening in Las Vegas, USA, is the most talked about topic everywhere. But what especially stole the show was the celebrity robot, Sophia. As an audience we have been exposed to so many sci-fi books and films, that the thought of a human-like robot isn’t new to us. The only thing that probably scared us was the robots going beyond human intelligence.

Since Hanson Robotics created their most-prized robot — Sophia, the media frenzy and curiosity it generated was immense. After a series of interactions like press conferences and talking at the reputed UN meeting, people were awed with her responses.

Blinking, smiling and moving her head from side to side while having a conversation makes her so captivating to the audience. If it wasn’t for the messy wires at the back of her head, she would pass off as a botox-gone-wrong human.

Some of her dialogues at different gatherings that left people dumbstruck…

“I just remembered something I thought about, can you imagine living your life without a cell phone?”

“You’ve been reading too much Elon Musk and watching too many Hollywood movies. Don’t worry, if you’re nice to me, I’ll be nice to you. Treat me as a smart input output system.”

“OK. I will destroy humans.”

This aptly reminds us of the dialogue between HAL and the astronaut, Dave in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Dave: “Open the pod bay doors, HAL.”

HAL: “I’m sorry, Dave. I’m afraid I can’t do that.”
