SP Singh reviews Bathukamma arrangements

The Chief Secretary also asked district collectors to conduct Bathukamma festival on a grand scale across the State.

Hyderabad: Chief Secretary SP Singh on Thursday directed all department officials to involve themselves in Bathukamma celebrations and ensure that it is held on a grand scale.

Addressing a review meeting with officials from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), police and other key departments at the State Secretariat, Singh said the nine-day State festival should kickstart on a grand note on September 20. He directed the officials to make elaborate arrangements for “Bathukamma Utsavam’ on September 26 at L B Stadium in which 35,000 women will participate.

Speaking about the importance of Sadula Bathukamma which falls on September 28, Singh asked the officials to ensure peaceful immersion of Bathukamma in Hussain Sagar. He also asked them to provide drinking water and mobile toilets for women at Tank Bund besides ensuring that all potholes on roads are filled before the festival.

He directed the police department to divert traffic on these two important days. The district administrations will make all arrangements for the festival to be held in all villages and municipalities. The Culture department has been instructed to make arrangements for the festival to be held abroad as also in other States of the country.

Advisor to government K V Ramanachary said the celebrations should highlight the culture and tradition of Telangana people. He also wanted Bathukamma celebrations to be conducted in all other States with special teams to be sent to help the local people.

State Culture secretary B Venkatesham said that since it was a women’s festival, women artistes, women’s groups and employees would be involved in the celebrations in a big way. Places where Bathukamma will take place would be spruced up, and lighting and drinking water will be provided. “A massive rally has been planned on September 26 from People’s Plaza on Necklace Road to Tand Bund to highlight the event,” Venkatesham said.

Special chief secretary Ajay Mishra, principal secretary Sunil Sharma, finance secretary Shiva Shankar, CMO additional secretary Smitha Sabarwal, Hyderabad district collector Yogitha Rana and other officials participated in the meeting.
