Hyderabad: The Telangana police have made special arrangements to monitor the Left Wing Extremist affected areas bordering Chattisgarh and Maharashtra.
According to the Director General of Police M Mahender Reddy, Telangana, combing operations and area domination exercise have been carried out extensively to prevent untoward incidents in areas having past record of LWE violence or presence. State and Central security forces have also been deployed and adequate measures are being taken up. Air ambulance and helicopters are being arranged by the Chief Election Officer for any contingency at strategic locations.
The DGP said that a total of 1,501 First Information Reports (FIR) were registered across the State on various complaints against different persons/ political workers for violation of Model Code of Conduct.
As per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, close watch has been kept on the movement of cash, liquor, gifts, contraband and other articles. “Bribing of voters is a violation of election law and the Model Code of Conduct. Close watch is being maintained over all the inter-state and inter-district borders,” he said in a statement.
The police are alert and have increased their visibility by organizing checkposts, nakas and effective patrolling across the State. “The entire force of Telangana police has been deployed for free, fair and peaceful elections to Telangana State Legislative Assembly. Sufficient forces were also mobilized from neighbouring States and ECI provided adequate number of Central forces for covering critical polling stations,” said the DGP.
The police during the enforcement work seized a total of Rs. 93,08,13,425 cash. A total of 414 flying squad and SST teams 404 were formed. The police formed 3385 mobile parties, booked 17,882 security cases and bound over 90238 persons for good conduct. A total of 53,769 litres of liquor worth about Rs. 2.37 crore was seized by the police.
