Speed up sanctioning of mining permission: CS SK Joshi

Hyderabad: Chief Secretary SK Joshi on Thursday instructed officials to work towards creating a special mechanism to speed up sanctioning of mining permissions in the State.

The Chief Secretary was speaking at a strategy meeting with officials of the Central and State Mining officials at the State Secretariat here. He suggested providing consultancy services to those seeking mining leases for obtaining various statutory permissions.

The Chief Secretary welcomed the Union Ministry of Mines’ decision to hold this meeting with a State for the first time, and assured that the State government will cooperate with the Centre. He expressed hope that the meeting will help in development of mining industry in the State. He also said the State will seek assistance from different national research institutions to exploit the mineral resources in the State.

K Rajeshwar Rao, Additional Secretary, Central Mining Ministry, said such meetings will be held with other States too. Using the expertise of organisation such as Geological Survey of India (GSI) and National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) and IBM will help in faster identification of mineral resources in the country, he said.

He said the Centre was working in the State for exploration of minerals like limestone, manganese, iron ore and coal.

Rafi Ahmad, Joint Director, Mining department, said there are 3,291 leases in the State, which earned Rs 4,792 crore in revenues in 2018-19.

Telangana State Mineral Development Corporation (TSMDC) Managing Director Malsur said that TSMDC received recognition as a National Exploration Agency and four projects had been allocated through National Mineral Exploration Trust.

Atomic Mineral Director (AMD) Ramesh Kumar, GSI Additional Director General Sridhar and officials of National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited (MECL) and NGRI were present at the meeting.
