Speeding car hits ambulance in Hyderabad; kills patient, wife

Hyderabad: Three persons in an ambulance, including the patient, were killed, while four others were injured when a rashly driven car rammed it on Outer Ring Road at Adibatla here early on Friday.

The victims were Venkateshwar Rao (60), his wife Subba Laxmi and the ambulance driver, Shiva. According to the Adibatla police, Laxmi, her son Hemachander Rao, son-in-law Srinivas and his brother Rama Rao — all residents of Gangavathi in Bellary, Karnataka — were in the ambulance with Venkateshwar, who was the patient. They were on their way from Eluru to Gangavathi when the mishap occurred.

When they were near Wonderla on ORR at around 3 am, a speeding car coming from the opposite direction went out of control, jumped on the opposite side of the road and rammed the ambulance.

Venkateshwar and Laxmi died on the spot, while the driver was declared brought dead at the hospital. Hemachander Rao, Srinivas and Rohit, another driver who was travelling in the ambulance, were injured.

Police said there were six persons in the car at the time of mishap, of which one person was injured. All of them belonged to Hastinapuram. The Adibatla police booked a case of negligence causing death and injury.
