SRSP officials release water for rabi crops

Rama Rao said each spell would comprise fifteen days in which water flow would be continuous for the first nine days.

Nizamabad: Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) officials on Thursday released water through Kakatiya, Saraswati, and Lakshmi canals to irrigate 8.75 lakh acres in north Telangana districts for rabi season.

The SRSP Executive Engineer Rama Rao, Deputy Engineer Jagdish, Assistant Engineer Mahender and staff members on Thursday released the water. The officials will continue to release water till next year March. On the first day, 2,000 cusecs of water was released to Kakatiya Canal, 350 cusecs to Saraswati Canal, and 100 cusecs to Lakshmi Canal.

Rama Rao said each spell would comprise fifteen days in which water flow would be continuous for the first nine days. The Executive Engineer requested the farmers to sow dry crops and save water, and utilise it for next kharif season.
