Stage set for much awaited MGU Convocation

After almost 10 years students are again gearing up to receive their certificates in an official ceremony

Nalgonda: The first convocation of Mahatma Gandhi University will be conducted at 11 am on May 5 in MNR Convention Centre in Nalgonda.

The Governor and chancellor of the university ESL Narasimhan will preside over the convocation and vice-chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi will be the Chief Guest.

Certificates would be extended to 150 students of Arts, Science, Social Science, Commerce and Business Management, Law, Engineering and Technology and Education courses at the Convocation from the hands of the Governor.

Ten years after the setting up of the university, the long waiting dream of conducting the convocation is going to turn into reality.

In all, 115 government and private colleges, 26 post graduation colleges, 34 B Ed colleges, 5 MBA, engineering, MCA and law colleges, four physical education and oriental colleges were affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University in Nalgonda, Suryapet and Yadadri-Bhongir districts. From 2007 to 2016, about 76,000 students completed various course in the university and affiliated colleges. In all, gold medals would be extended to 140 merit students at the convocation.

A state of art central library building was also constructed with Rs 6.5 crore and came to the availability of the students a few months back.

Mahatma Gandhi University has entered into a MoU with International Youth Fellowship (IYF) Organisation for faculty and student development programme through mind education. The university authorities have decided to conduct the convocation outside the university campus as their auditorium would accommodate only 350 persons. They have also issued entry passes and invitations to limited persons as the selected venue MNR Convention Centre would have seating capacity of 1,000. Media Pass were also issued to just 40 journalists. Mobile phones would not be allowed into the venue during the convocation.

The vice-chancellor of the university Prof Khaja Althaf Husain informed that convocation of the MGU was not conducted for the last 10 years due to technical reasons. From now onwards, university convocation would be conducted once in two years. He expressed happiness over succeeding in conducting university convocation with in one year after he took the reins of administration of MGU.

The police are also making elaborate security arrangements at the venue of the university convocation in view of arrival of the Governor to participate in the convocation.
