Nepotism was one of the most talked-about topics of 2017. And with more films coming from star scions, it is likely to be a never-ending topic of discussion. Amidst this debate, this year is going to be special for the film industry with around half-a-dozen star kids making their debut.
It is Pranav Mohanlal who stands first in the list. His debut film Aadhi, in Malayalam, has released on January 26 and he proved his acting skills in this action-packed film like a boss. He amazed both audiences and critics alike, and now, it’s the turn of other star kids to prove themselves as good actors.
In the Tamil film industry, in recent times, there was no star scion. So now, all eyes are on Dhruv, son of ‘Chiyan’ Vikram. Dhruv will be seen in and as Varma, the official remake of Telugu blockbuster hit Arjun Reddy. Dhruv looks like his father and his is definitely one of the most exciting debuts of this year.
During a recent interview, when asked about his son’s debut, Vikram said, “Dhruv is doing a filmmaking course in Los Angeles. He is not interested in acting right now as he thinks that he still has a lot to learn. But when Bala came to me asking that he wants Dhruv to play Varma and if it was okay with me, I immediately said yes. I called Dhruv and told him that I want him to this film and he said yes with a condition that he will be going back to finish the course. I think the role will suit him well.”
Coming to the Telugu film industry, three star scions are ready for big launches. Mehbooba, starring Akash Puri, son of director Puri Jagannadh was announced in September 2017. This film is quite special as Jagannadh himself is directing his son. Earlier, Akash was seen as child artiste in Bujjigadu, which was directed by his father. Mehbooba’s teaser has been out recently and has received good response from the film fraternity, for its intense and passionate love story. Neha Shetty is the female lead of the movie which will be releasing in summer.
Balakrishna’s son Mokshagnya is also going to be launched this year, as per the sources from the industry. While there has been no news yet on the project he’ll be doing, surely he will be introduced to the audience this year.
Besides the star sons, here comes a star daughter to give stiff competition to others. Shivani, elder daughter of veteran actors Rajasekhar and Jeevitha, is also being launched this year, with the official remake of 2 States, a Bollywood film which was made based on Chetan Bhagath’s book of same title. In Telugu too, the film may have the same title. Shivani will be seen pairing with Adivi Sesh.
With this, a new and fresh set of actors are going to be introduced to southern cinema audience. And now, the audience need to wait and watch to know how well these star scions are going to perform and make their parents and fans happy and proud.
