Visakhapatnam: The murder of a girl studying Intermediate second year in Chodavaram town in the district has led to protests by students on Thursday.
The girl, Padmavati, 17, went missing on Tuesday night and her parents, residents of Kotaveedhi, began search vigorously but did not lodge any police complaint fearing damage to their family reputation.
Police in the meanwhile found a body near a timber depot and the parents then met the police and identified the body. It is said that the girl was involved in a love affair with a boy of the same locality and suspect the latter’s hand in the killing.
Students of the local colleges staged protests on Chodavaram main road condemning the murder and demanding that the killers be brought to book.
