A teddy bear is a friend for a lifetime. Irrespective of your age, teddy bears or rather stuffed toys in extension, are everyone’s favourite. One can never get too old for a teddy bear. As kids, all of us will have that one important stuffed toy that we’d always carry around. “At times of distress or during mood swings, cuddling with them actually helps one calm down. Their cushiony feel actually have a soothing effect on me,” says Niharika, a resident of Himayatnagar.
Growing up, while a few of us might start keeping it away (for whatever reasons), there are some who don’t let it go. Regular maintenance can ensure that you have your teddy bear with you for a longer period of time.
Stuffed toys are generally very soft and therefore, it is important that we maintain a gentle hand while cleaning them. Some might label it as unnecessary and time consuming, the process is actually quite fun and some would go as far as calling it a stressbuster. If you wish to clean your stuffed toys at home, here are a few things you need to pay attention to.
Follow the instruction
Teddy bears or rather stuffed toys in general, are gentle things, so, be gentle with them. Before you start the whole washing process, read the label on the toy or the instructions manual that comes with it. This will help you gain a better understanding of what to do and things to avoid. If the manual says that you can put the toy in the machine, only then wash it in the machine.
Clean the fur
Identify the places with spots and use mild detergents and cold water to gently wash it off. Use a soft cotton cloth to rub the stain. Make sure that the cloth doesn’t leave off colour.
Do not push the toy in hot water as it can damage the fur, and shrink the fabric lining. Usage of soft detergents is highly recommended. Depending upon the toys, decide if you need to hand wash or if they can be washed in the washing machine. If you are washing them in a machine, do not mix different coloured toys in the same wash or you might end up with a bunch of multi-coloured toys.
It is always advisable to let your stuffed toys dry naturally under the sun. It’s best to stay off artificial dryers.
