Hyderabad: The Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Tom Moody, mentor VVS Laxman and players Yusuf Pathan and Siddharth Kaul on Tuesday batted for creating awareness over eye cancer (retinoblastoma) in children. They also unveiled the t-shirt and medals of the second edition of the Whitathon, being conducted by LV Prasad Eye Institute for creating awareness about the disease. The Whitathon will be held on May 19 to commemorate the World Retinoblastoma Awareness Week.

Laxman said the Sunrisers are happy to be associated with the event as it is a noble cause. “It is our duty to create awareness about this. No one should suffer because of lack of awareness. The first edition has been a great success and we hope the second edition will see a lot more people participate in the Whitathon. The LV Prasad Eye Institute has one of the best infrastructures in the country and they are doing a fabulous job,” he added.

Tom Moody also said that the Sunrisers feel proud to be part of the initiative. “We play a simple game of cricket. But what people do here (LVPEI) is amazing. If we can do our bit in any way to raise awareness, it would be great on our part,” he added.

The run will be conducted in 3K fun run, 5k and 10 categories. The entry fee for run is Rs 500 while for 5k and 10, it is Rs 750 and Rs 900. Registrations can be done on www.ifinish.in.
