Hyderabad: The third edition of World Mithai Namkeen Convention and Expo-2020 was inaugurated on Thursday at Hitex Convention Centre by Pawan Kumar Agarwal, CEO, FSSAI. Sweet and namkeen manufacturers from all over the country are participating in the convention. It is being organised by Federation of Sweets and Namkeen Manufacturers (FSNM) in association with Hyderabad-based Almond House.
Addressing the gathering, Agarwal said first generation entrepreneurs’ in this line have done a great job and have created wealth for both economy and their respective families. “Now it is the time to think broader and have a vision for the namkeen and sweet Industry. We all should work for Growth Story 2.0 which will further develop the industry,” he said.
Halidaram Foods founder Shiv Kishan Agarwal advised the manufacturers to shift to lesser fat and low sugar products without altering the taste that has been continuing for many generations. The process may take some time but will yield great results, he said.
In the panel discussions on packaging materials, storage technologies and logistics, Ritesh Dhingra, CEO of Multivac Laron, said good packaging of a product would enhance the overall consumer experience.
About 1,00,000 manufacturers across the country are associated with the namkeen and mithai industry producing hundreds of region specific varieties. The industry has now crossed more than Rs one lakh crore and it would grow in double digits in this decade. Hyderabad has become the capital of mithai industry, officials said.
FSNM director Firoz H Naqvi said that the industry had been facing issues related to different slabs of GST, food safety and other compliances and could have performed much better if these challenges were not there.
