The 30-share BSE index ended 485.82 points or 0.92 per cent lower at 52,568.94, while the broader NSE Nifty dropped 151.75 points or 0.96 per cent to 15,727.90.

The 30-share BSE index was trading 271.72 points or 0.52 per cent higher at 52,209.16 in initial deals, and the broader NSE Nifty rose 69.70 points or 0.45 per cent to 15,652.50.

Asian Paints was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, advancing nearly 3 per cent, followed by M&M, Titan, Bajaj Finserv, Nestle India, NTPC, HUL, ONGC and Infosys.

PowerGrid was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, advancing over 2 per cent, followed by SBI, L&T, HDFC Bank, Maruti, Axis Bank and Dr Reddy's.

The 30-share BSE index was trading 6.73 points or 0.01 per cent higher at 50,200.06, and the broader NSE Nifty advanced 1.50 points or 0.01 per cent to 15,109.60.

Heavy selling was witnessed in auto, IT, FMCG and banking stocks. However, metal stocks soared amid rising prices of metals.

ONGC was the top gainer, rallying around 8 per cent. NTPC, Asian Paints, Tech Mahindra, PowerGrid and IndusInd Bank were among the other winners.

Axis Bank was the top loser in the Sensex pack, shedding around 2 per cent, followed by ONGC, M&M, ICICI Bank, Asian Paints, SBI, HUL, L&T, Titan, Infosys and TCS.
