Aden stay is a stunt double and actor who has worked for films like Pitch Perfect 3, Jumanji, Welcome to the Jungle, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom and A Bad Moms Christmas. When Aden visited Hyderabad a while ago, Hyderabad Today had an interaction with the stuntman. Excerpts from the interview:
How did you get into stunts?
Honesty, I got into stunts by accident. I was asked to help with the show called Lost, which was filmed in Hawaii and I’m six feet five inches, the cast was all shorter and relatively looked the same on camera. Director JJ Abrams wanted some diversity in size and asked if I could become a cast member.
What kind of preparation do you do before a major stunt?
It all depends on the stunt, but if I’m going to do a driving stunt or a car crash, I have all of my safety equipment, neck brace, helmet, fire suit, etc. I prepare mentally for the pain that might come. I get myself into the correct mental state for every stunt I do. But physically, I’m prepared to do any stunts any day at the drop of a dime.
Did you work as a stunt double for any actor in any movie or series?
I’ve doubled for Vinnie Jones, many times in films and on television. He is an amazing person to be around. I worked for Vincent D’Onofrio in a show called Daredevil, where the character’s name was the king pin. Another one is Kevin Durand on a show called Swamp Thing.
How is the industry now compared to previous years?
Now, they have computer graphics and there are a lot of changes technology-wise. The industry has changed immensely over the past 10 to 15 years due to computer graphics (CGI) development but we as stunt performers still enjoy the practical way to implement stunts in film and television.
How was the experience visiting Hyderabad and New Delhi?
Visiting New Delhi and Hyderabad was such an uplifting experience, because I was able to have such a wonderful interaction with the Indian people and their culture. I gained a lot of respect on India.
Any particular director you want to work with in the future?
I would like to work for James Cameron and Michael Bay; I wish that day would come soon.
