Hyderabad: The police foiled an attempt by BJP activists to march to Pragathi Bhavan on Monday in protest against Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s alleged remarks against BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The police teams were deployed near the State BJP office and the residences of Hyderabad BJP president N Ramchander Rao, party floor leader in Assembly G Kishan Reddy, legislators NVSS Prabhakar and Raja Singh in the wee hours of the day. All the leaders, including State unit president K Laxman, were taken into preventive custody at around 10.30 am and shifted to different police stations.
The party’s Hyderabad unit had on Sunday called for ‘Chalo Pragathi Bhavan’ in protest against the Chief Minister’s comments. The police stopped them before the party leaders and workers reached Rajiv Chowk in Begumpet and took them into custody.
Later, Ramchander Rao condemned the preventive arrest of the party leaders and said it was against the law. Party president Laxman and Kishan Reddy too condemned the arrest and faulted the government. “BJP will not be deterred by such actions and will continue with the agitation,” Laxman said.
