Hyderabad: The Telangana State Haj Committee urged all pilgrims planning for Haj this year to improve their fitness by walking every day.

“This is because they will have to walk about five to six km from their hotel or place of stay to perform the pilgrimage. Taking a walk daily will help them during the pilgrimage,” Committee chairman Mohammad Masiullah Khan said.

Though the distance is not much, it could prove taxing to some, particularly the elderly. This year, 4,169 pilgrims were selected from Telangana for Haj. “Of these, 484 are over 70 years old. We do not want anyone to fall ill while on the pilgrimage. If someone does fall sick, there are systems in place to help them. But we would rather have everyone have a satisfactory and happy pilgrimage,” he said.

The lottery for the accommodation for the Rubaat in Mecca would be held soon and those selected would get a refund of up to Rs 65,000, he said.
