Telangana government constitutes screening panel on MCC

Hyderabad: The State government on Thursday issued an order constituting a screening committee on Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the April 11 Lok Sabha elections. Election Commission of India (ECI) had requested the government to constitute a screening committee on MCC and government constituted the committee with Chief Secretary S K Joshi as chairman and Special Chief Secretary and two Principal Secretaries as members.

The committee shall examine each proposal, in the light of the ECI existing instructions and clarifications available in the form of manual on MCC and Compendium of instructions on MCC and issue the clearance or comments on the proposal of the departments as directed by the ECI and return to the departments for further course of actions as per the ECI directions.

The departments shall submit the proposals cleared by the screening committee to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) along with the details. The CEO shall take further action to forward only such proposals cleared by the screening committee to the Commission along with a self-contained note. The departments of Secretariat shall send necessary proposals if any to the General Administration Department and the General Administration shall take further action to convene a meeting of the screening committee in the matter.
