Telangana govt issues GO on 2% job quota to sportspersons

Hyderabad: The Government of Telangana on Monday issued a GO facilitating 2 per cent reservation to meritorious sportspersons in government departments/undertakings/grant-in-aid institutions at all levels. The GO will come into effect immediately, according to Minister for Sports T Padma Rao.

With this, all meritorious sportspersons will get reservation horizontally in direct recruitment in the existing 100 roster points as per rule of the TS and Subordinate Service Rules. The reservation is applicable to athletes in 29 disciplines recognised by the Government of India. Priority is given in the order of the medal wins starting with Olympic individual gold medal.

“It is a day to celebrate for the sportspersons of the State. Our Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao approved 2% reservation for sportspersons and this will be implemented from today itself. The Telangana government under his stewardship will encourage sportspersons to bring more laurels to the country and the State,” the Minister said.

Secretary to Government Burra Venkatesham, Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS) chairman A Venkateshwar Reddy and V-C and MD A Dinakar Babu were present.

Venkateshwar Reddy said that the Government of Telangana is committed for the development of sports.

“After the Commonwealth Games, the Chief Minister felicitated all the medal winners and promised to implement 2% reservation for athletes in the government jobs. Today, he fulfilled his promise. We are competing with top States such as Kerala, Haryana, Punjab and others in providing best facilities to the athletes and we will improve on it by starting more academies,” he added.
