Hyderabad: In a novel gesture, the State government is planning to present gifts to the poor and the needy on the occasion of Christmas in December this year. Officials of Minorities Welfare Department have been directed to prepare an action plan to ensure that there is no room for corruption and the gifts should reach eligible persons.
Reviewing the Christmas arrangements at Sankshema Bhavan here on Friday, SC Welfare and Minorities Welfare Minister Koppula Eeshwar said the State government was observing Christmas celebrations as a State function.
He wanted the officials concerned to prepare an action plan for conducting the celebrations in a grand note. Special committees will be formed to present gifts to a few lakh people from underprivileged sections in the State.
Further, the Minister announced that the State government would present cash awards of Rs 1 lakh each to six individuals and Rs 2 lakh each to six organisations. The award winners will be selected by a committee appointed by the government. He wanted the arrangements to be completed before December 5. Government Advisor AK Khan, Minorities Welfare director Shahnawaz Khasim, Telangana State Christian Federation chairman Kranthi Wesley, Urdu Akademi president Mohd Rahimuddin Ansari and others were present.
