Telangana Home Minister chairs meet on Muharram festivities

The Home Minister asked the community to adhere to the lockdown guidelines and take all safety measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus during the religious gatherings held in the Muharram month.

Hyderabad: Arrangements for Muharram festivities were discussed at a meeting held by Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali on Tuesday. Several leaders of the Shia community and religious heads participated in the meeting where issues pertaining to gatherings and processions during the Covid-19 pandemic were taken up. The Home Minister asked the community to adhere to the lockdown guidelines and take all safety measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus during the religious gatherings held in the Muharram month.

Koppula Eshwar, Minister of Minority Affairs, AK Khan advisor to government on minority affairs and other officials were present on the occasion. Meanwhile, the community released guidelines to be followed during the (Majlis) gatherings during the Muharram month and the following months. These guidelines include restricted numbers of participants in the gathering, avoiding touching the standards (alam), use of sanitizers and face masks, and maintaining social distance.

It also asked the people to take care while preparing meals during gatherings, take up sanitizing of flats, houses or Aashoorkhana’s before and after holding the religious gathering.
